BASSIC
The Brazilian Army Strategic Studies International Course (BASSIC) is designed to promote knowledge and experience exchange in the areas of politics and strategy. The course provides Brazilian and Partner Nations senior officers the opportunity of approaching major political, military, social, economic and scientific aspects and intents to enhance cooperation and integration among Armed Forces.
BASSIC is held at the Brazilian Army Command and General Staff College (ECEME), located next to Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Hill), one of the most beautiful postcards of Brazil.
The course offers 20 slots for Colonels / Lieutenant Colonel: four (04) for the Brazilian Army and sixteen (16) for Partner Nations (Army / Navy / Marines / Air Force). It offers a 20-week program totally run in English.
Syllabus
BASSIC works in partnership with the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), one of the most recognized Superior Institutions of Brazil. BASSIC syllabus focus on five core modules:
- Politics;
- Strategy and Geopolitics;
- Economy;
- Prospective;
- Defense.
Each module applies specific methodology that provides the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Teaching strategies actively engage the officers in group discussions, working groups, lectures, seminars and debates.
The course will explore key conceptual strategic issues: Geopolitics, Strategy, International Relations, International Law, Economics, Defense Industry, Security and Defense.
Field Trips
The Course offers trips to strategic areas, including Brasília, the center of the political power in the country; São Paulo, axis of economics, scientific and technological areas; and Amazon.
Those trips contribute to contextualize the topics discussed in the classroom. They also develop the students’ awareness regarding Brazilian infrastructure, science and technology, national defense industry and natural resources.
History and Culture
The city of Rio de Janeiro, the former capital of Brazil, is best known for its natural beauties and welcoming people. The city constitutes an important chapter of the Brazilian history; visitors are welcomed to some major historical spots as the National Historical Museum, the Imperial Palace, the Quinta da Boa Vista, the Botanical Garden, the Statue of the Christ - the Redeemer, at the Corcovado Mountain, and the Mario Filho Stadium (Maracanã).
It is also possible to visit the facilities that held the Olympic Games in 2016, as well as the Museum of Tomorrow, the Olympic Boulevard, the Olympic Park and other venues
