Major General MARIO EDUARDO MOURA SASSONE

Before being appointed as the Commandant of the Army Command and General Staff College (ECEME), Major General Mario Eduardo Moura Sassone was the Chief of Staff of the Eastern Military Command.

He was promoted to the rank of MG on 31 March 2023.

He is a native of Rio de Janeiro. His parents are Mario Esterino Sassone and Iria Maria Moura Sassone.

He joined the Army on 17 February 1990 and was commissioned as an Artillery Officer on 4 December 1993 from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy. His first duty as an Artillery Officer was at the 31st Field Artillery Group School in Rio de Janeiro.

Beyond the Captains’ Career School (ESAO) and Staff College courses, his military education includes the Specialization Course in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (CBRN), Master's Degree in Military Operations, PhD in Military Sciences, Post-Doctorate in National Defense. His civilian education includes an MBA in Politics, Strategy and Executive Management.

MG Sassone also attended the French Army War College.

Throughout his career, he has served as an instructor on three occasions: at the CBRN Specialization Instruction School, the Captains’ Career School and the Command and General Staff College.

As a senior officer, he performed the following functions: United Nations Military Observer in Sudan; Operations Officer of the 9th Infantry Brigade (Motorized) and of the ARCANJO 2 and ARCANJO 4 Pacification Forces in the Penha and Alemão Complexes; Commander of the 31st Field Artillery Group School; Olympic Battalion Commander (RIO 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games); Assistant-Secretary to the Military Commander of the Eastern Military Command; Chief of the Federal Intervenor’s Personal Staff in Public Security in the State of Rio de Janeiro; Military Assistant to the Force Commander of MONUSCO, Head of the Operations Coordination Center of the Eastern Military Command and Deputy Commander of Captains’ Career School.

His first duty as a general officer was as the Chief of the Operations Coordination Center, concurrently serving as Chief of Staff of the Eastern Military Command.

MG Sassone’s awards and decorations include: the Ordem do Mérito Militar-Grau Comendador, Medalha Militar de Ouro, Medalha Marechal Hermes de Prata com uma Coroa, Medalha das Nações Unidas do Sudão e da República Democrática do Congo, Medalha Corpo de Tropa Bronze, Medalha Marechal Trompowski Prata among other national and foreign medals.

He is married to Mrs. Andréa and has a daughter named Giulia.
