With the objective of promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences, in the areas of Politics and Strategy, between senior officers of the Brazilian Army and Officers of Friendly Nations; and to provide these officers with the opportunity to know the most relevant aspects of our country in the political, military, social, economic and scientific-technological fields; the Brazilian Army Commander decided to create, in October 2013, the Braziliam Army Strategic Studies International Course (BASSIC).

The course is held at the Army Command and Staff School, located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where the highest level courses of the Brazilian Army are held.

It is attended by a staff of 20 (twenty) superior officers of the rank of Coronel, being 04 (four) officers of the Brazilian Army and 16 (sixteen) officers of Armies of Friendly Nations, lasts 18 (eighteen) weeks and is ministered in the English language.

Curriculum

The BASSIC Curriculum consists of five blocks of subjects:

  • Politics
  • Strategy and Geopolitics
  • Economy
  • Prospective
  • Defense

Each block is developed using a teaching methodology that provides the exchange of knowledge and experiences, through a process of andragogic teaching (adult education), consisting of discussion groups, group work, lectures with experts and military authorities, seminars and debates.

During the course are studied topics related to Geopolitics, Strategy, International Relations, International Law, Defense Economics, Defense Industry, National Defense Policy and Strategy, White Paper and Strategic Planning.

Study Trips

The Course conducts a Trip of Strategic Studies to the center of political power of the country, in Brasília - DF; to the Amazon Region; to Foz do Iguaçu; and to the center of economic, scientific and technological power, in the Rio de Janeiro - São Paulo axis.

These trips are intended to complement the study of the topics discussed in the classroom and to provide the students with the knowledge of the Brazilian potential in infrastructure, science and technology, national defense industry and natural resources and the efforts made by the country in the environment, sustainable development and governance.

Cultural Activities

The course also provides official students with cultural and professional visits so that the officers of Friendly Nations can learn about the history and culture of Brazil and the Brazilian Army.
